Don’t Let Winter Roads Bring You to Our Shop
West Texas winters have a way of catching drivers off guard. One minute the road looks fine, the next you’re sliding on invisible ice with no warning. Black ice is especially dangerous because you often don’t realize it’s there until control is already gone.
At Sideways Collision Center, we’d much rather see you drive safely past our shop than meet us after an accident. A little preparation before temperatures drop can make a big difference when winter weather rolls in.
Don’t Let Winter Roads Bring You to Our Shop
Tires Are Your First Line of Defense. Your tires play a huge role in winter safety.
- Check tread depth — worn tires struggle to grip icy pavement
- Keep tire pressure properly inflated — cold weather lowers PSI
- If you drive often in winter conditions, quality all-season or winter tires can help
Battery Check Before the Freeze. Cold weather is hard on batteries. If your vehicle is slow to start or the battery is a few years old, now’s the time to have it tested.
Visibility Saves Lives
- Make sure headlights, brake lights, and turn signals work properly
- Replace dim or burned-out bulbs
- Clean lenses for maximum visibility in fog or low light
Brakes & Safety Systems
- Address squeaking, grinding, or warning lights early
- Ensure ABS and traction control systems are functioning correctly
Clear Windshield, Clear Vision. Winter weather demands extra attention to visibility.
- Use winter-grade windshield washer fluid
- Replace worn wiper blades
- Keep an ice scraper and de-icer in your vehicle
Fluids & Antifreeze. Cold temperatures can expose low fluid levels.
- Confirm antifreeze is rated for freezing conditions
- Check oil, brake fluid, and power steering fluid levels
Driving Smarter on Icy Roads. Even a well-prepared vehicle needs careful driving:
- Slow down — traction disappears faster than you think
- Leave extra space between vehicles
- Brake gently and avoid sudden movements
- Steer smoothly and avoid sharp turns
- If you start sliding, ease off the pedals and steer where you want the front of the car to go
